Standard Poodle Breed

information

The Standard Poodle is an ancient breed originating in Europe over 400 years ago. Poodles began as duck hunters in Germany and France. Poodles are also no stranger to the arena, they are world-class in showman and sportsmanship. Today, poodles vary in size ranging from the teacup, miniature, and standard and are well known as beloved family dogs.

In temperament, the larger dog is more docile, with a regal, ladies-and-gentlemen personality. A poodle at its best requires a fair amount of exercise and enjoys the outdoors.

Poodles are stable in temperament, sociable with children, a good watchdog, and a passable guard dog. They are highly intelligent, learn quickly, and have strong problem-solving abilities.

The average Standard Poodle height is over 15 inches and the approximate weight is 60-70 lbs for males and 40-50 lbs for females. Their life expectancy is 10-18 years. According to the AKC Standard, Poodles rank 7th in popularity among 196 breeds. Coat colors vary from black, silver, white, blue, brown, red, cream, and apricot and the coat could include two or more colors in unique patterns.
